Some job postings are never meant to be filled. Surveys and industry estimates put the share of listings that look like “ghost jobs” somewhere in the tens of percent — Greenhouse’s 2024 State of Job Hunting report and Clarify Capital’s ghost-jobs research both point that way, though the exact figure depends on who was asked and how a ghost job was defined. Nobody can audit an employer’s intent from the outside — what we can do is read the posting itself.
